- Scope and Content:
- The image shows the interior of a banyan tree with monkeys in the branches, people sittting on the ground, and a tent. On the other side of the river are the tops of several buildings. The caption reads: "this drawing contains about a sixteenth part of this famous Tree." Top of page: "Ex abore et simulacra numinum fuere. Plin: Nat. Hist." translated as "Trees were the symbols or images of the Gods, in ancient days."
