Scope and Content:
"My Dear Mr Redgrave, you will perceive by the enclosed that I made the remark "paint-blistered & cracked" in the agenda paper on 3rd March last on receipt of Leslie's 'May Day in the Time of Queen Elizabeth' so how far this injury has been increased by the picture's exposure in America - for which alone we are liable is so a question difficult to decide. However I have cause to [...] It would not be fair to make us or so [...] pay for damage previously caused nor on the other hand do I wish to send back a picture which may have suffered in the slightest degree during its custody [..] Very faithfully, J.M. Jopling." Redgrave's reply on reverse indicates that he feels it "impossible for [him] to estimate if the injuries have gone further [...]."
