Cut paper work is loosely inserted.
A small wallet style album of 'turkey' leather with thick sugar paper pages into which are inserted over 40 examples of cut paper work, friezes, tiny figures (one movable), &c. A folding 'fashion' engraving dated 1794 has been mounted onto one of the first leaves. The paper work is likely to be ca. 1810-1820, but perhaps earlier.
Two plates in the beginning of the volumes are probably from the 1794 edition of Joseph Johnson's Ladies new and polite pocket memorandum book for the year 1794 ... embellished with a beautiful copper plate representing two ladies on the most fashionable dresses.
Each inner cover of the binding also forms a pocket and one edge of the rear pocket is unpasted. Remnants of the original silk tie remain.
