Manuscript commonplace book kept by Charlotte (last name unidentified) at Guernsey, compiled from 1827 to 1830. The volume includes original contributions, in English, French, Italian, and German prose, and verse from her family and friends. Her introduction is dated March 26th 1827, and the first entries are possibly from her sisters, Ellen and Elizabeth, who includes a piece “written by Dr Macculloch in a lady's album, each line being written in a different hand...” The next two pieces are written in French by M. Bernabeu, and Juan de Dios Bernabeu. Other names include G. Buisson; Henry, who contributes a long poem "The Gardener and the Rose Tree"; Georgina, “A Cure for Love” by Emily; J.J. Bousseau; F.H. “On being asked what was the origin of love”. Also includes six original drawings, gray wash over graphite, depicting St. Sampsons, Guernsey, cottages, and several trees). - Subject Terms:
