Captain Cecil John Shepherd, late of the King's Dragoon Guards, died aged 71 on the 16th July 1911.
Bound in contemporary dark green morocco wallet style notebook.
Manuscript diary of a tour in France and Italy, by Cecil John Shepherd, in 1864. Shepherd is not the most assiduous diarist, completing only 16 pages. Inserted into two pockets in the wallet are several letters to Shepherd at the Hotel d'Italie in Florence, from his brother at home. The letters are addressed from Frosley Rectory and are postmarked Maidstone. Also present are Shepherd's calling card and a carte-de-visite photograph of him in military uniform. With the original ivory ended pencil, but lacking the outer silk ties.
