Sketchbook probably used for drawing instruction, comprised of 14 pairs of drawings, presumably by teacher and pupil. The sketchbook is inscribed at front (in a mature hand): Agnes Carson, Oct. 1866.
The paired drawings occupy the recto of each leaf, with a more mature (but still amateur) handling at top and a copied version beneath. All drawings are in graphite, with a light tonal wash. Drawing subjects are simple, focusing on domestic architecture and wooden fences. At the back of the volume are four copies of English county maps (including Yorkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Kent), in pen and black ink. These also appear to be the work of a young student, perhaps in the same hand as that of the drawings.
