- Notes:
- Manuscript diary, sketchbook, and translation of Virgil, by Rev. Charles Thomas Dawes, of Cannock, vicar of Dilhorne. The sketchbook comprises about 40 pages of drawings, primarily caricatures, in pen and black ink. The drawings are very informal, and record family visits, a croquet game, picnic, ballooning etc. The diary commences in March 1816, recording his ordination by the Bishop of Norwich, and continues with a record of personal and church events, select hymns, etc., concluding in 1844. The third item is a manuscript of Virgil's Aeneid (book V). There is also a letter in which he comments on a fellow translator and the distribution of “suitable works.”
