"Several of the Master Chimney Sweepers of London, and its environs, having looked with regret upon the general condition of Chimney Sweepers and their Apprentices, are of opinion that much good would accrue both to the Masters and Apprentices, if the Act of Parliament, made for the Relief of Climbing Boys, were put in full force; but which, at present, as to its effects in alleviating the inconveniencies they labour under, is but insufficiently known. Urged by these considerations, the have formed themselves into a Society for the purpose of raising a Fund and devising means for the Relief of Apprentices, and furtherance of the general interests of the Trade".
The London Society of Master Sweeps had its own set of rules, one of which included that boys and girls were not required to work on Sundays but had to attend Sunday school to study, learn, and read the Bible.
