"This is a multi colour screen print. Instead of recording the number of printings and colours used, I worked on this print over a six week period in a free way starting with a solid black printed ground and slowly built up layer upon layer of opaque colour. I print with artists' high pigmented acrylic paint which allows good control and intensity of colour. The build up of opaque layers gives the print a strong physical quality. The print is similar to the Moth Collection boxes, except this time we have a swarm taking to the air at night. The species are mixed, it could be a natural phenomenon or an unnatural phenomenon. The moths imagery in the boxes and prints did originate from found line drawings of particular species. I find the names just as fascinating, such as Ghost, Magpie, Death's Head Hawk, Goat, Kentish Glory, Garden Tiger and Emperor."--Artist's statement. - Subject Terms:
