Second edition; the first was published at Antwerp, 1567. Significantly enlarged, with new illustrations, comprising 55 engravings (including 46 double-page maps and 7 double-page views) probably designed by Pieter van der Borcht, printed by Mynken Liefrinck. Due to Spanish war conditions, the town plans of Antwerp and Cambrai were suppressed.
For a detailed description of this edition see Annales Plantiniennes, 1. ptie., p. 251-253.
BAC: British Art Center copy bound in blind- and gilt-stamped contemporary sheep; rebacked. With armorial bookplate: The Right Honble. William Lord North of Carthlage and Baron Grey of Rolleston, 1703. With North's signature on half-title (next to the crossed-out signature of Daniel Dun). With the signature of Jacob Ortelius (nephew of Abraham Ortelius) on front fly leaf and on the title page; and with his notes on various cities on the rear fly leaf.
BAC: British Art Center copy augmented by 11 double-page maps and 9 single-page maps, with three leaves, from the 1588 edition, inserted between pages 86 and 91 (replacing those suppressed in this edition).
