Early manuscript note (in graphite) to front pastedown: Monsieur Adam, peintre, no. 27 Metz.
Album containing copies, perhaps direct tracings, from Flaxman's famous Dante sequence, taken from the version engraved by Étienne Achille Reveil for his Parisian edition of the English artist's works (Paris, 1833). First published in 1807, Flaxman's Dante illustrations, with their powerful symbolism and clean neo-classical outlines (redolent of the style of his colleague, William Blake) were popular sources for the student and amateur.
