The plates comprise one chromolithographed title page by Owen Jones, 25 tinted lithographs by A. Picken, W. Parrott, H. Warren, J.C. Bourne, G. Moore and T.S. Boys, and one outline map of Yucatan and Central America.
Three of Catherwood's original watercolors reproduced in the present work are in the collections of the Yale Center for British Art, Department of Prints and Drawings: Well at Bolonchen, Yucatan (B1979.12.688); Maya Stela at Copan, Honduras (B1979.12.689); Ruins at Sabachtsche (B1979.12.715). "Usually issued plain, but large-paper copies mounted on thick boards as above were colored."--Tooley. In the hand-colored large-paper copies, the plates are proofs before letters.
