The firm of Peyton & Iles, of Birmingham, England, were manufacturers of various clothing accessories, including hooks and eyes, adhesive carding, and boxes for buttons, etc. See: History, gazetteer, and directory of Warwickshire (1850), advertisement on page 46.
This pin holder is made from a circular piece of yellow cardboard with three concentric bands, under which 60 straight pins are secured. The outer most band is embossed with the words “Peace on Earth & goodwill to men. Peyton & Iles, London & Birmingham patent.” The central band is embossed with the words “Exhibition pins for all nations, 1851.” The inner band is embossed with the words “The Crystal Palace, London.” Within the inner band is a blind embossed picture of the Crystal Palace.
