The volume includes 30 finished watercolors (on 30 leaves) depicting more than 60 objects in a collection (largely porcelain). Depicted are cups and saucers, plates, figurines, large show pieces, and other porcelain objects (one a ceramic shoe) from a wide variety of ceramic manufactures in France and elsewhere, including S̀evres, Meissen, Delft (blue and white, and polychrome), Mennecy, Tournay, Chantilly, Strasbourg, Rouen, Lille, St Cloud, Strasbourg, and from China and Japan. Items not in porcelain include a Renaissance ivory of two putti playing, a collection of 18th-century red and green morocco bindings, an early 18th century silver pitcher and plate, and four 18th-century whistles in the shape of dogs.
The verso of the final drawing is inscribed: "Reçevez, mon aimable compere, ce petit souvenir comme un témoignage de mon intérêt pour tout ce qui vous touche; et un mémoire de l'heureux jour ou l'amie Lisette nous réunira, pour la Célebration du Baptême de son enfant. [signed] Comtesse de Salignac-Fenélon. Potsdam, le 6 octobre 1804." The author of the note is presumably Christine, Comtesse de Salignac-Fenélon (1755-1837), née d'Incourt d'Hangard. She was the third and final wife of Jean Raymond de Salignac-Fénelon (1746-1824). - Subject Terms:
