This letter written by Prince Albert is possibly in response to the news regarding the death of Ernst I, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, who passed away on April 12, 1860. Prince Victor of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, also known as Count von Gleichen, was the third son of Ernst I, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, and Princess Feodora of Leiningen, who was Queen Victoria's half-sister.
