Sketchbook with landscapes and scenes of Devon, by an unidentified artist. Many subjects are identified with handwritten captions below the drawings. Locations include: Shaugh, Newton Bushell, Salcombe, Bantam, Hope, Kingsbridge, Slapton, Poole, Plymouth, Wembury, Dartmouth, Bickleigh, and Meavy. The sketchbook also features a drawing of Sir Francis Drake's residence, Buckland Abbey, as well as drawings of Buckland Church, Buckfast Abbey, and Berry Castle. The deliberate formatting of the drawings resembles that of printed plate engravings. Many of the drawings feature backgrounds composed in graphite and foregrounds in ink. One ink drawing of a hunting scene has been inserted into the sketchbook. The sketchbook also includes two unfinished drawings in graphite and two ink drawings that are much simpler in quality and composition.
