The title leaf, dedication, and index are printed. The 54 remaining leaves bear mounted specimens of 53 varieties of peat moss. Each peat moss species is accompanied by a numbered label giving the title, name, authority, and collecting data. Some species are represented with multiple mounted specimens. For each, there is also one or more mounted envelopes containing an unmounted specimen.
