Originally published in parts starting in 1847; the completed first volume was offered in newspaper advertisements 31 March 1849.
Added engraved title page.
Each illustration accompanied by tissue guard.
An expanded edition of the 1833 Jones & Co. publication of the same name, re-use of the 107 plates with the addition of 43 new plates. Some of the re-used plates retain the earlier imprint statement "Jones & Co., Temple of the Muses, Finsbury Square, London"; on other plates the imprint has been burnished and replaced with "London E.T. Brain & Co, 88 Fleet St." Still other plates lack any imprint statement.
