Lettered inside plate, lower left: "Percy Thomas 1987"; lettered on verso, center: "THE DINING HALL OF THE | MIDDLE TEMPLE. | The interior of this beautiful Elizabethan Hall, of which the | exterior was depicted in a previous etching. The exquisite | proportions of the building, the massive carved oak screen, and the | timbered roof, combine to render this one of the crowning glories | of the Temple. Its general scale and arrangements are those of the | Manorial Dining Hall of the Middle Ages, still familiar to us in the | Colleges of our great-- the screen separating the Hall | itself from the Kitchen and Butteries"
