The Crystal Palace was originally erected in Hyde Park, London, England, to house the Great Exhibition of 1851. From 1852 to 1854, it was reconstructed at a new site in Sydenham, and the original Hyde Park design was modified with the addition of two additional transepts. The structure stood at this final location from 1854 until its destruction by fire in 1936.
