Harriet Churchyard (1836-1926) was the 6th child and 5th daughter of Thomas Churchyard of Melton (one of "the chief wits of Woodbridge" as characterized by Edward Fitzgerald, who numbered himself, with Bernard Barton and Rev. George Crabbe, as the others). Harriet studied at Ipswich School of Art in 1868, and from 1871 taught at Brook House Ladies Academy. As her siblings predeceased her, the family art and other possessions accumulated with Harriet who disposed of very little over the years. On her death the last remaining son Charley promptly sold everything, mixing up the work of Thomas with that of his daughters in one large sale held by Arnott & Everett, April 11th, 1927, Lecture Hall, Woodbridge.
