The Somalvicos were a prolific and noted family of instrument makers based in London, renowned for the fine quality of their barometers and scientific instruments. Joseph Somalvico (fl. 1805-19) specialized in barometers, and was based in Holborn Hill and Brook Street. His son James (ca. 1820) worked out of Kirby Street in Hatton Gardens, and Somalvico and Co., was founded by his son Joseph (active 1833-60) and continued to use the Hatton Garden workshop.
