The bottom of the base is illustrated with a medallion enclosing two classical heads, surrounded by text (on inner band) "Arts and commerce promoted" and (on outer band) "The Society of Arts' medal presented to Charles Meigh for the best model of a mug ornamented in relief." Printed in brown ink. The Society of Arts medal was presented in 1847.
