Artist's double-ended porte crayon for holding chalk, crayons, or charcoal. Consists of a hexagonal faceted silver plate tube, split at each end, in which drawing media may be inserted and secured tight by sliding ring clamps. The plate tube itself is 15.5 cm in length and 0.7 cm in diameter. Such instruments were popular with artists as the large dimensions enabled chalk, charcoal or crayons of different colors to be used at either end.
