Gallery Label:
The Victory, which Turner shows from three different viewpoints, was the flagship of the popular British commander at the Battle of Trafalgar, Admiral Lord Nelson. After the battle, in which Nelson was killed by a sniper’s bullet, she sailed home with his body. Here she is passing the Isle of Wight, with the Needles to the left.
