The Birmingham-born John Walker has been recognized as one of Britain’s leading abstract painters since the 1960s. Much of his career has been spent in the United States, including a visiting professorship at Yale in 1989 and over twenty years teaching (1993–present) at Boston University. The materiality of Untitled Collage—with its scraps of thickly painted canvas—is typical of Walker’s approach, deliberately blurring the boundaries between painting and sculpture, two and three dimensions.
