When the student/reader of Cox’s Treatise (cat. 15) had become proficient in drawing, he or she graduated to copying monochrome aquatints in India ink washes. These prints in the Treatise (aquatinted, with only one exception, by Richard Reeve) progress from simple, basic compositions to more elaborate subjects. One of the plates presents in monochrome the central section of Cox’s watercolor Westminster from Lambeth.
